It’s a straightforward, uncomplicated Tennessee whiskey that tastes the same from bottle to bottle, which is quite an accomplishment considering how much the company produces. It’s inexpensive and mixes well with lots of things like cola, vermouth, or ginger ale, so lots of people can find ways to enjoy it. If you like it, you can find it in almost any bar or liquor store anywhere on the planet.

That said, Jack Daniels Black Label doesn’t have a lot of character. You won’t find lots of different aromas as you swirl it in a glass, nor will the flavors change a lot as the whiskey flows across your tongue. Drinking it is fairly uneventful, which lots of people like in a beverage, but it won’t prepare you for something like a single malt Islay Scotch with a heavy peat smoke in it. If you go from Jack to an Islay Scotch, you’ll be overwhelmed.
